The bulk of a $400–$2000 bill is labor. Expect a service call or minimum charge of roughly $120 to $180, plus diagnostic time.
Parts are usually modest. A commercial-grade NEMA 14-50 receptacle runs $30 to $60. Weatherproof covers and gaskets are under $25. Dielectric grease is a few bucks.
A GFCI or GFCI/AFCI breaker for a 40 to 50 amp EV circuit is the pricier common part, often $90 to $160 depending on the panel brand.
If the electrician needs to megger the circuit and it flags damaged in-wall wiring, you're looking at a bigger repair: opening drywall, pulling new cable, and patching. That can run $600 to $1,500 or more.
Replacing the charger itself, if it's the CCID sensor that's shot and it's out of warranty, adds the cost of a new unit ($400 to $700 for most hardwired residential chargers).
