How to work through it

First, confirm you actually have an element problem and not just a normal slow-recovery day. Run two hot showers back to back and watch whether the tank goes cold while the compressor keeps running.

Check the display. Any fault code narrows the search fast and tells you if this is a control issue before you start draining a tank for nothing.

Many models have a 'high demand' or 'electric' mode. Force it on. If the elements engage and heat comes back, your element and wiring are probably fine and the issue is control logic.
