What's actually happening
Your bathroom sink drains fine most days. Then a real storm rolls through and suddenly it's slow, gurgling, or backing up. When the rain stops, it seems to recover.
That timing is the whole story. Hair clogs don't care about the weather. If yours does, water is getting into your drain system from outside, or the system can't breathe when rain floods it.
The hair you find near the stopper is real and worth clearing. But it's not why the sink acts up during storms. It's just the passenger.

Why rain changes everything
There are two mechanisms behind almost every rain-linked drain problem, and they're worth understanding before you spend a dollar.
The first is the vent. Every drain in your house connects to a vent pipe that runs up through the roof. That pipe lets air in behind the water as it drains, like the second hole you poke in a juice can.
When the vent is partially blocked with leaves or a nest, heavy rain can finish the job by flooding the opening or washing debris across it. No air means slow, gurgling drains, and hair that would normally flush through gets stuck.
The second mechanism is infiltration. If your underground drain line is cracked or has an offset joint, rainwater soaks into the soil and pours into the pipe during storms.
Now your line is running full of storm water and your sink has nowhere to go. This is extremely common in homes built before 1975 with clay or Orangeburg pipe.
There's a third player in older cities: combined sewers that carry both storm and sanitary flow. When the public main surcharges during a downpour, it can push back into your house through the lowest drains first.
A bellied line (a sagging low spot) rounds out the list. Debris settles in the low spot, and rain adds the flow that stirs it up and chokes the pipe temporarily.
